I’m working on the transocder, learning C++ as I go and trying to make thing as easy as possible. Right now it looks like the entire thing has to be in C++. Fact is I’m thinking that instead of making this specific to Amarok to encode this as something that could be placed in any program. Thing is I’m wondering how much reinventing the wheel I’ll end up doing. I dislike the idea of reinventing the wheel.
Was discussing QTScript calls planned for and already in Amarok 2 in the freenode channel tonight. Seems a good portion of the functionality I’d need for my media device script would need to be added into Amarok as it stands. Which means I’m back to C++ for the entire process, and to build what needs to be included into Amarok 2. Little bit more work than I was thinking when I first thought to try this.
Was tweaking around some of the old links and found a fellow I linked to a while back in a post about the Sony Reader and iRex Iliad. Seems he’s started a few new blogs and posted recently about Sony Reader distribution. He’s posted a lot of articles relating to eBook distribution both in relation to devices and the actual content as well. Frankly as I look at the front page for Amazon.com and look at the ever present Kindle ad on the front page I have to wonder if eBooks will finally have a chance of reaching a larger market. I first started being interested in them when I had access to Microsoft Reader and purchased several books from Amazon.com in that format. They were decent enough, and I had an iPaq at the time so reading off it wasn’t a big deal for me. I enjoyed it. I even had fanfictions on it and read them using pocket word. I so enjoyed my first Jornada PDA.
Decided to post a link to all my fanfictions that are currently available on Darkscribes.org. They are all linked on their own page so give them a look and tell me what you think. Comments should be left with the stories on the DS comment system.
I figured I would take some time and share some links to other peoples fanfictions that other people have written that I loved. The first of these are obviously Axel “Terizaki’s Child of Love” and Rakna’s “The One I Love Is”. These were two of the first fanfics I ever read and did enjoy them. They also sort of forged the way for the types of fics I found myself enjoying most.
I’ve been using KDE 4.1.2 for an extended period and I am very pleased with the setup. The new QT 4 based tool kit has helped improve a lot of perceived issues with appearence and functionality. The elimination of ARTS in preference for Phonon was a good idea for the most part. Several people may have issues with it however, as they would prefer direct calls to ALSA. Considering the intent of making all KDE apps cross platform however I don’t see that as logical or practical.
Seems that Mark Shuttleworth is stirring the pot again. According to this blog from Computer World Shuttleworth has declared that the idea you make money from the Linux Desktop is in error. The shrink wrapping of free programs and sending them is not the way to make money, but the way to get people on. You make your money, according to him, by the value added services you provide. Things like support and other resources. But the desktop itself not at all.
He’s also quoted as saying Microsoft has made the leap with their offerings in the Cloud Computing area.
I figured I’d share this with you all.
I took a look at an example script for Amarok 2 which pulled lyrics for songs. This I then used in order to write a small script in order to search YouTube for related videos. I’m not sure exactly what it would do, but this is more for my edification then any real work.
Right now I am working on learning QT script so I can build an Amarok 2 script for transcoding media for media devices. This includes music, videos, and uploading pictures. Which means I will need to figure out how to get access to lame, mencoder, and other things for meta data.

Honestly there are times I read a story and can’t help but see a way I would do it better. I’ve actually gone through once and tried to completely rewrite a story and make it my own in a way. Honestly it was more like me trying to fill out how this one guy did things… and he was rather upset by how well I did with his original idea.
Who know people could get upset about doing better then them with their idea.
This is a snippet of how I would have handled Slayer’s Neon Genesis Goddess: The Second Wish. Here’s hoping he doesn’t get pissed. And I might honestly add to this later just for my own thoughts.
