Discussions about the Wordpress Content Management System.

Webserver Mining

So, there are some folk who apparently use their websites to mine crypto. Instead of showing you ads, they eat up a bit of your computers processing power for their own mining operations. Now, this to me seems fishing and ethically and morally ambiguous unless there is some kind of notification.

Ads you can see. Unless I tell you I’m mining on your computer, you only notice a bit of a slow down.

While I wouldn’t mind a way to potentially monetize this site more, I can’t say I approve of stealing time from my readers like that.

So, while I am not against such an idea, I will say that I won’t do so on here unless I mention it. I can’t just do something like that and then not tell you about potential issues.

I AM using my webserver to try and mine Monero, but with a small script that doesn’t eat up a lot of power. This way even if there is no viewers I get a bit of something. and I keep the CPU load down. That way it doesn’t cause any issues for the viewers here or on Fanbards.net.

Reorganizing Stories

So, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to build a great featureset in Drupal that would make it easy for someone to start their own story archive, either as a community, or as a single person setup. I’ve got ideas on how to make it a closed system as well, but that hasn’t been worked on yet really.

But as I also use WordPress here I’ve wondered, could what I do in Drupal be adapted to do the same in WordPress? Could I have a nice front page with all the story information, then have the chapters organized and easily paged through in WordPress… I’m thinking it’s possible. Not sure though.

I’d love to try, or find plugins that would allow me to do the same thing I do in Drupal in here. WordPress is great for simple stuff actually, and there is a reason I haven’t completely went Drupal on this page, if only so I can keep up with what WordPress for my own use.

I’m still thinking on all the subjects.
