KBlooger 1.0 Alpha 3

Opine, Uncategorized | Posted by LD May 6th, 2009

Decided to give kBlooger 1 a trial run. I have to admit that even for alpha software it does look like it will turn out well. First problem though is no tags so I have to add that later. Second problem is no image uploading, so I have to do that in the site itself. I’ll see how everything works over time. Maybe some things will be fixed as it progresses into beta and then stable 1.0. Who knows.

Here’s a screen shot.

Ideas for new projects.

Linux, Techie, Uncategorized | Posted by LD September 26th, 2006

One of the things I’m going to do once I have my new place is setup a media center mythTV frontend. I checked with the folk on the Gentoo OTW Forum about the subject. A few folk had some real interesting ideas. Someof which could allow for a real good setup but with minimal needed hardware. I want the system as small as possible since it will be a settop box. I was thinking of the Dell XPS210 for this purpose, but with some of the idea posted that maybe more machine then needed.

Fact is a Mini-itx with a diskless linux setup might be best. However the problem is I’ve never in my life setup such a thing. Obviously this would require a major desktop system to back up the PXE diskless system. Mostly it will need a major amount of HDD space. That’s not to bad, since you can always add to a desktop with an external harddrive and such. This would be good for music and the like. However I’m still a bit on the edgy side with reguards to that. I sort of like the idea of having some HDD in the system for the basic OS, then go from there with the mythtv front end. I’m still debating the best option. I’m getting rid of my old Xbox once I can find everything for it. While I would concider making it the front end I’d rather go and hookup a mini-itx setup PXE boot.

If I do that I get a lot of power for little expense which is always good. However I want the front end to be able to do some things as well as the backend. I’m still debating the best option for everything. If any of you have any suggestions I’m all ears. Though I doubt I’ll have cash for much of a setup so I’m debating the best way to get the hardware I need. I would like the front end to be as small as possible. I’d also like to minimize the wires in the setup with some good wireless networking. I’m still figuring that stuff out.

Any tips let me know.

Dell XPS 1210 – May buy one and linux it

Uncategorized | Posted by LD August 20th, 2006

Well, After a while offline I’ve finally gotten back from the digital exile. So what am I up to? Well for starters I’m thinking of upgrading my current laptop setup. I’ll probably give the E1505 to my cousin when I get the new one. I’m going to trick out a XPS 1210 from Dell. I’m going to work on the How to for that as I work on it.

I am going to try to get the Wireless WAN card in this model so anyone who knows anything on that please point me in that direction. I’d like that inorder to get the C400 working with a Sierra Wireless card. Assitiance on this front is appreciated.

In other news, now that I’ve left the military I’m working at Dell as an assigned worked in Troubleshooting. Should be good.

The components for the 1210 will be similar to the 1505, Upgrading a few parts like the video and sound cards. But the problem is going to be the Dell wireless wan card.

For those of you wondering what your computer does when you aren’t looking. The Genuine Avantage validation tool has been phoning back to MS stats and such about your system. The implications here are massive, and MS is trying to get around the issue by saying that you folk consented to this. It’s not spyware if you said you want it.

If by informed consent they mean the EULA… how many folk have ever read one of those? I’m a GPL fan and I’ve never read GPLv2 or 3.
